The inside story
The Rynek Underground Museum of Krakow is located right under the central square of the city, a good four meters below the surface and is very extensive: over 6000 square meters. The museum was opened on 24 September 2010, and due to its popularity and the fact that admission is limited to just 300 people at a time, you need to buy timed tickets in advance to visit it.
Highlights include a glimpse of life before Krakow received its charter and the market square was laid out, exhibitions on trade and transport in the city, a children's area and the remains of an 11th-century cemetery. Inside the museum you can also find many artefacts (coins, clothes, etc.), as well as short documentaries covering different periods of Krakow's history.
