A guided boat excursion to explore Chiemsee lake, its islands and the spectacular Herrenchiemsee palace: a unique day trip from Munich!
Take a train from Munich and get on a boat to sail along the beautiful Chiemsee. Known as "the Bavarian Sea", it is the largest fresh-water lake in the region. You'll see the two main islands of the lake: the bigger Herreninsel (gentlemen's island), home to the Herrenchiemsee palace and the smaller Fraueninsel (ladies' island) with its lovely Benedictine Convent. A guide will provide you with interesting stories and facts along the way. You also have the option to visit the interior of the Herrenchiemsee palace.
The Herrenchiemsee palace was built in the 19th century by Mad King Ludwig II in the style of Versailles in France. In some respect the palace surpassed Versailles, as with its vast Hall of Mirrors. Take in beautiful interiors of gold, glass and porcelain, wander around elegant gardens and enjoy this visually stunning monument of opulence. In the royal palace you can also find a reflection of King Ludwig's eccentric personality: the famous elevated dining table, which was raised and lowered through the floor to the kitchen below. This way the reclusive kind didn’t have to see his servants.
Spend a lovely day at the Chiemsee and discover its picture-perfect islands, palace and history. This full day tour is one of the most unique and special touring experiences in Germany.
