Virtual experience: Argentinian wine masterclass with guided wine tasting

The Argentinian Wine Masterclass is an online experience designed for wine lovers of all levels. It's a chance to discover more about the wines and wine regions of Argentina.

During the class, you'll also have a step by step guide on how to taste wine like a sommelier. Included is a list of wineries and regions to help participants choose a wine for the tasting.

Class structure

Welcome and introductions (10 minutes)

The host/sommelier introduces him/herself, gives a short explanation of their professional background/wine industry experience. The guests are asked to introduce themselves. The host inquires about their wine knowledge to establish the level of technicality needed for the class.

Part 1: History of wine growing in Argentina and geography of Argentina (15 minutes)

• When was the grapevine first planned in Argentina?
• Colonial times - what were the wines like?
• Where were the vines grown?
• Where are vines grown today?
• The importance and the influence of the Andes mountain range
• The difference in climate found in the major regions
• Emerging regions
• Which are the main grape varieties
• Argentina's star: Malbec

Part 2: Step by step guide to taste wine (20 minutes)

• Three-step process on how to taste wine
• Understanding the label
• Evaluation of age, quality and region
• Discussion on how region, climate and the winemaker’s decisions affect a wine

Part 3: The main wine regions of Argentina (35 minutes)

• Mendoza + Cuyo
• Salta + NOA
• Patagonia
• Description of each region and the styles of wines and grape varieties

This is the part of the class where the sommelier explains the differences between the three main wine regions. This allows participants to have a better understanding of the regional wines and therefore will feel more confident in selecting Argentine wines in the future.
