What to expect

Enjoy a full day experience, including tour by bus, boat and foot, you will explore the region where the largest number of flowers are grown for world export, as well as where the most windmills are still in operation.

Your tour will depart from This is Holland and take you via bus to Flora Holland, where you will get to go behind the scenes to witness the hustle and bustle at one location of the world’s largest flower auction. No description can do justice to the incredible sea of flowers being sold here and the complexity and coordination of the auction. Some say that it is like seeing a giant puzzle that must be solved before the clock runs out.

You can see the buyers in the auction room, making quick bids under high pressure. From a viewing room above the giant warehouse, you will then see the logistics as trolley carts transport thousands of flowers to be shipped out the same afternoon, all over the world. The visual entertainment of the auction in operations will be sure to be a unique experience.

Next, you will take a two hour scenic boat ride through the Kaag Lakes, an area with beautiful nature that has not yet been discovered by many tourists. As this region is home to the largest number of working windmills in all of Holland, you will ride past many of the most important windmills that have helped to control the water levels. The Kaag Lakes is an incredible example of Dutch hydraulic engineering, which you will see first-hand as you will have the chance to explore inside of an authentic Dutch windmill. During the boat ride, you will also get to enjoy a typical Dutch lunch, as you take in views of the picturesque landscape of South Holland. The boat tour will end in Noordwijk, a scenic coastal town that is well known for its beautiful beaches.

You will then take a bus ride along the Noordwijk boulevard, with views of the North Sea, as you ride to an authentic Dutch cheese farm. Here, the century old tradition of cheesemaking is honoured and you will see the cheesemaking process, taste this delicacy and will have the chance to purchase this Dutch treat to take back home with you. Come along to experience Dutch history, traditions and food in a beautiful region of the Netherlands.
