The inside story
Nieuwe Kerk (in Dutch) or The New Church, of Gothic style, owes its name to being the second Parish church of the city of Delft, built with a wooden body in 1381, and the tower with its 108.75 meters of height is considered the second tallest tower in Holland. It has suffered various vicissitudes during its life, from the fire to the city in 1536, iconoclastic revolts years later, and was even affected by the explosion of the gunpowder house in 1654.
Its impressive organ, with more than 3000 pipes, stands out in its interior, nowadays used in ecclesiastical celebrations, as well as in concert season. William of Orange was buried in this Church in 1584. As the city of Breda was taken over by Spanish troops, so from then on, Delft has been the resting place of the Orange lineage.
