The inside story
World-renown paintings, Flemish expressionist masterpieces and a collection of cultural gems - the Groeninge Museum truly stands out from the rest. Nestled in the historical heart of Bruges, this arts-filled museum is ideal for anyone wanting to get to know Belgium's finest pieces of art.
With its six centuries worth of visual delights you'll embark on a historical journey, uncovering Belgium's roots. From the Madonna with Canon Joris Van der Paele by Jan van Eyck to the Moreel Triptych by Hans Memling, Groeninge Museum gives you the chance to admire some of the best works done by Flemish primitives.
The museum also offers lots of historical artefacts and various monumental canvases made by Jacob van Oost, one of the most influential Flemish Baroque painters. Bruge's neo-classical canvasses date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and include artists such as Joseph-Benoît Suvée, Jean Bernard Duvivier, Joseph Ducq, Joseph Odevaere and François Joseph Kinsoen.
Groeninge Museum is a dynamic house of culture and puts on display a plethora of temporary exhibitions giving visitors the opportunity to discover different exhibitions and research projects of international allure, all year round.
