El Palacio de Versalles, catalogado como Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde hace 30 años, es uno de los mayores hitos del arte francés del siglo XVII. Este antiguo pabellón de caza de Luis XIII fue transformado y ampliado por su hijo, Luis XIV, quien trasladó hasta allí la corte y el gobierno en 1682. Hasta la Revolución francesa, los reyes se sucedieron en el trono, y cada uno aportó su estilo personal a la decoración del palacio.
