The inside story
Known as the Russian Versailles, Peterhof Palace is one of the key visitor attractions in St. Petersburg. This 18th-century imperial palace built under the rule of Peter the Great is home to stunning gardens and an impressive array of fountains, the most famous of which is called the Grand Cascade. Additions to the palace were added throughout the 19th century. Ravaged during World War II, the palace and gardens were resurrected gradually to their original grandeur. This must-see imperial palace, arguably more breathtaking than Versailles itself is fully open from March to mid October, and remains partially open throughout the winter months. Its labyrinth gardens and numerous golden fountains offer plentiful photo opportunities and fun for guests of all ages.
