The inside story
The American Museum of Natural History in New York City is the largest natural history museum in the world. Opened back in 1869, the museum is located just across from Central Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
The museum waits with a world full of history and facts waiting to be discovered. With over 32 million specimens and artifacts to explore throughout the museum's 40 exhibition halls., visitors are sure to be spoiled during their visit. Be prepared to spend hours marveling at the various permanent and temporary exhibits on animals, marine life, dinosaurs, fossils, meteorites, minerals, gemstones, native peoples, birds, and rain forests.
If you are fascinated by the prehistoric world, the museum has an outstanding collection of dinosaurs, with six halls that tell the story of their evolution. Book a guided tour to get the full experience and see original fossils and entire free-standing skeleton exhibitions including the favorite Tyrannosaurus rex and Apatosaurus.
The Milstein Hall of Ocean Life allows visitors to admire collections of fish and marine life with its monumental model of a blue whale hanging above you so you can see how big these water giants really are!
Famous for the setting of the award-winning film Night at the Museum, you’ll be able to see the exact characters that come to life in the film such as the Tyrannosaurus rex, the capuchin monkey, and the Easter Island Head. Don’t miss the bronze statue of President Theodore Roosevelt outside the entrance made famous by Robin Williams which welcomes visitors inside for an adventure through time.
