Hop on the ferry north from Malta for the day and you'll find a refreshing change of pace. The nearby island of Gozo is smaller, greener and has an altogether more peaceful vibe than its bustling neighbour. First, you'll head to Victoria, where the capital's fortified walls and cathedral give you a real sense of the city's history. After visiting a clifftop shrine to the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu, you'll continue to the west coast. In Dwejra Bay, Fungus Rock almost blocks the circular bay off from the Mediterranean. It's said that ancient knights were once healed by the plants that grew here. After hearing the legends, it's on to the north coast to visit Calypso Cave before heading to Qala Belveder for views all the way back to Malta.
