The inside story
Take a look at any Maastricht postcard and you’re likely to see the picturesque St. Servatius Bridge (or Sint Servaasbrug), a 13th-century stone bridge spanning 160 metres over the River Meuse. This ancient bridge, despite being destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1948, is considered to be the oldest remaining bridge in the Netherlands.
The St. Servatius Bridge’s seven arches stretch across the River Meuse, connecting pedestrians from Maastricht’s historic centre to the Wyck district on the east. Walk along the bridge to experience the city like a local. A 54.5-metre steel drawbridge has also been added to the east side of the bridge.
