The inside story
Stadhuis – also known as the Town Hall – is Leuven’s magnificent Gothic-style building situated in the main square, opposite St Peter’s Church. Built between 1439 and 1463, this building is the city’s administrative centre and has become a symbol of the city. Stare up at the gothic turrets, intricately carved statues and ornamental reliefs that depict scenes from the Bible and local history.
One of the most notable features of the City Hall is its ornate belfry tower, which stands at the height of 236 feet and is accessible to visitors via a spiral staircase of 236 steps. From the top of the tower, you’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking views of Leuven's historic city centre and the surrounding countryside.
