With a rugged beauty all of its own, the eastern shores of Lake Como are a joy to explore. On this tour, you'll visit a jewel of Romanesque architecture at Piona Abbey, enjoy spectacular views over Italy's most famous lake, and round off with a wine tasting session at an historic cellar.
It all begins by rolling through the Italian countryside, towards Piona Abbey. One of the most historic religious sites of the Lombardy region, its foundations date back to the 7th Century. Still a working monastery today, you've free time to soak up the serenity the Cistercian monks enjoy here and explore on your own.
We'll then head to Valtellina cellar. Nestled in an alpine pass along the border with Switzerland, they've been making wine for over 2,000 years, and are said to be the birthplace of bresaola – a delicious air-dried beef. Where better to wind-down the tour with a wine tasting session and some locally produced snacks.
