Having left the access highway in the area of Würzburg, you'll follow the Romantic Road (country roads) to this unique mediaeval town. On a walking tour through the picturesque alleyways, you'll come to see the old frameworked houses and the "Plönlein", the landmark of Rothenburg. Then you'll pass over cobblestoned streets alongside the beautifully decorated townhouses of the old centre, along the Herren-Alley to the mighty city gates and alongside the accessible city wall. The extensive castle gardens offer a splendid panorama view of the valley of the river Tauber.
On to the central marketplace with its mighty Renaissance town hall and St. Jacobs Church to see the altar of Tilman Riemenschneider, one of the most outstanding artists of the Middle Ages. It's also recommended to visit one of the very worthwhile museums of Rothenburg: the Mediaeval Crime Museum, the Toy Museum or the Museum of German Christmas.
Experience Rothenburg with this incredible journey through time. It's also a special place for beautiful souvenirs: wood carvings, glasses, Christmas decorations, beer mugs and even cuckoo clocks, as well as unique culinary delights such as the "snowball" sweet shortcrust pastry.
