The inside story
Named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World in 2011, the Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu/Iguaçu River, on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. Together, they make up the largest waterfall in the world.
The falls are shared by the Iguazú National Park (Argentina) and the Iguaçu National Park (Brazil). Although most of the waterfalls are on the Argentine side, the Brazilian national park is three times larger with an area of approximately 180,000 hectares. The two parks were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1984 and 1986.
