Stroll along medieval streets and experience the vibrant life bubbling in tapas bars and markets. With this self-guided walking tour, you'll discover Catalan ground-breaking architecture and art and listen to the story of the Cathedral by the Sea, which stood from the Middle Ages through the Civil War up till now.
The walk will start at one of the centers of Barcelona’s cultural life – the Picasso Museum. Santa Maria del Mar Basilica will take you back in time to the period of the Roman Empire to the Spanish Civil War. Next, you'll walk along the medieval avenue of Passeig del Born, where you can stop for some tapas and a glass of cava. El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria will reveal the heritage behind the old town of Barcelona through its archaeological dig. You'll hear about the courage and bravery of El Born people during the Siege of the city in 1714 and find out about the origins of the Catalan independence movement. After that, relax in the shades of Parc de la Ciutadella while you admire its Cascade Fountain.
The tour ends at the Palau de la Música Catalana - a true masterpiece of Catalan modernism created by Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
