Step into a Greek tragedy at The Ancient Theatre of Taormina (Teatro Antico di Taormina), carved into the rocks of Monte Tauro and enjoy jaw-dropping views of the Ionian coast and Mount Etna.
Where natural scenery becomes one with the architecture, the theatre was built in the third century B.C by the ancient Greeks. With its perfect acoustics from any area of the auditorium, the Greeks used it for musical and drama performances. After the Romans conquered Taormina and made it a Roman colony, the theatre was expanded and renovated, used for gladiator fights and naval battles (expanded and renovated).
