The ancient Maya civilization was one of the most dominant and sophisticated indigenous civilizations in Mesoamerica. Learn about the Maya people’s complex history, day-to-day lives and more in this full-day tour.
First, you’ll make your way to the famous Chichen Itza. Go on a guided tour of the once-bustling complex and learn about the rich history, religion, culture and daily life of the Maya.
Next, you’ll visit the quaint and charming towns of Piste and Tekom. Explore some of the larger settlements in the area and note the evolution of the towns throughout the years. You’ll also stop by Jardin Alak and marvel at the lush greenery of the garden.
Then you’ll join a local family as they teach you how to cook age-old recipes passed on by generations, get to bring home some original recipes. Lastly, you’ll head to a local bee farm and learn about the ancient Maya beekeeping practices, as well as the unique bee species ‘Melipona beecheii’ or in Mayan ‘xunan kab’ that is found only in the area. Following your time with the bees, you’ll partake of a traditional Yucatecan lunch before returning to your hotel.
