Spello is as one of the most beautiful places in Umbria and is set like a jewel on the southern slopes of Mount Subasio, not far from Assisi.
The foundation of the village dates back to the Umbrian era but it was with the Romans that it became an important Augustan colony, earning a prestigious political role. From that moment it was enclosed within a circle of walls equipped with six doors, among which the majestic Porta Consolare, the scenographic Porta Venere and the original Porta dell’Arce still stand out, all different and of incredible beauty.
You will enjoy a nice walk, reaching the so-called ‘Belvedere’ to enjoy a splendid view over the Umbrian Valley. You will also admire the churches of Spello, and their hidden unexpected treasures: the frescos by Perugino and Pintoricchio.
